SECTION 1. BASICS GONE DIGITAL
^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^
For years now, those of you who are so up-to-date
that you no longer own a cassette tape player have
been out of luck, not to mention out of earshot!
Well, there's good news tonight! The Grammy-winning
(well, not really) "Shadow Work Basics" is now
available on CD as well as on audio cassette!
The CD, like the audio cassette (still for sale),
features the benevolent voice of Shadow Work
founder Cliff Barry and the melodious voice of co-
founder Mary Ellen Whalen, along with an all-too-
brief performance by her composer husband,
John Whalen, of his lovely "Spring River Waltz."
"Shadow Work Basics" describes in an easy,
conversational way, the ideas and beliefs underlying
Shadow Work. You can purchase the CD for $7.00
plus shipping and handling from our online store:

SECTION 2. A MAGICIAN, INSIDE AND OUT
by Alyce Barry
^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^
Keith Jarrett is a pianist known both for his jazz
trio and for his concerts, in which he improvises
onstage, alone, seated at a Steinway grand.
In a recent television interview, Jarrett spoke
about improvisation and illustrated eloquently
what in Shadow Work we call the two sides of
Magician energy.
The Magician is the "brainy" part of us -- the part
us that thinks, knows, learns, intuits, and analyzes. ...

SECTION 4. RECLAIMING THE LOVE YOU ARE
from the Editor, Alyce Barry
^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^
In our last issue, I asked our readers what had
changed for them in the four years since the
attacks of September 11, 2001.
I realized belatedly that what I'd really wanted
to ask was, Are you, in your life today, still
feeling the influence of the attacks in the way
you think about security, or watch the news, or
view government, or see the world?
I asked because I have felt the influence,
and I think about it each year as the anniversary
of the attacks approaches. This year, with the
bombings in London and Egypt, it seems
particularly appropriate to write about it. I felt
the influence in three ways. ...

SECTION 5. FINAL THOUGHTS
^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^
"Seated one day at the organ,
I was weary and ill at ease,
And my fingers wandered idly
Over the noisy keys.
I know not what I was playing,
or what I was dreaming then,
But I struck one chord of music,
Like the sound of a great Amen.
It flooded the crimson twilight,
Like the close of an angel's psalm,
And it lay on my fevered spirit,
With a touch of infinite calm.
It quieted pain and sorrow,
Like love overcoming strife,
It seemed the harmonious echo
From our discordant life.
It linked all perplexed meanings
Into one perfect peace,
And trembled away into silence,
As if it were loath to cease.
I have sought but I seek it vainly,
That one lost chord divine,
Which came from the soul of the organ,
And entered into mine.
It may be that death's bright angel
Will speak in that chord again;
It may be that only in Heav'n
I shall hear that great Amen."
-- "The Lost Chord" by Adelaide Ann Procter
(later set to music by Sir Arthur Sullivan)
