SECTION 1. A NEW SHADOW WORK CD ON
THE WAY -- "CLEAN TALK"
^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^

A new Shadow Work CD will be available soon:
"Clean Talk," featuring the voices of Shadow
Work founder Cliff Barry and newsletter
      editor Alyce Barry.

Clean Talk is a toolbox for group leaders, and
for those who want to communicate well in
personal relationships. It's a set of "word tools"
that make any conversation safer and more
      productive.

Also called Quarter Talk, Clean Talk has been
taught as a basic toolset for more than a decade
to every person attending the Shadow Work Basic
Facilitator Training. It's also been taught in various
corporate settings. The "Clean Talk CD" will make
this valuable set of word tools available to the
general public for the first time.

On the CD, Cliff and Alyce, who are brother and
sister, start with the "do's" and "don'ts" of
clean, clear communication. Then they teach
Word Coaching, the practice of coaching others
in their communications using the Clean Talk
      model.

Recorded in late November, the CD is in
final editing and will be available for sale in
February from the Shadow Work online store
      for $19.95.

SECTION 2. WHAT MAKES TWO PROCESSES
FOUNDATIONAL: IDEAL SUPPORT AND THE
WARRIOR RUN, A Commentary by Darren Cummings
^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^

I work with a variety of small groups which use
dramatic emotional work. During the past year,
I've enjoyed introducing them to Shadow Work
methods, using a simplified version of Shadow
Work processes called the Carpet Training
      Manual.

While editing that manual recently, I reflected
on a question I'm commonly asked: "Why are
the two processes on which that manual is
based - the Ideal Support and Warrior Run
processes -the foundation of the work we do?"

Ideal Support has traditionally been thought of
as a Sovereign process, since it brings a person
support from an ideal being or concept. The
Warrior Run has, as its name suggests, been
seen as a Warrior process, since it helps a
person set a boundary. On a map of the
Shadow Work Model, the Sovereign and
      Warrior archetypes share a "north-south"
      axis. ...

SECTION 3. WRITING THE SHADOW WORK BOOK,
PART TWO: A BOX, NOT A BAG, by Alyce Barry
^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^

In "Writing the Shadow Work Book, Part One:
Storytelling" (issue #19, May 2007), I explained how
my new book about Shadow Work, "Practically
Shameless," became a personal story rather than
      a traditional nonfiction book.

Since Shadow Work's creation in the early
1990s, its founders and most of its facilitators
have explained the concept of the human shadow
using Robert Bly's metaphor of the "shadow
      bag."

In "A Little Book on the Human Shadow," first
published in 1988, Bly described the shadow
as the bag we carry over one shoulder. Into
that bag we throw the parts of ourselves that
we must hide from the world. As the bag fills
with our denied and repressed selves, it
becomes a heavy burden that keeps us from
      moving forward. ...
